Agent in waiting
FLORIDA-BASED reggae singer Agent is expecting a good run from his latest single Two to Quarrel.
“It’s a typical relationship song. Men know too well that when his lady is quarrelling, the best thing to do is just be quiet and let her blow her steam. It is somewhat me giving relationship advice while adding a bit of humour to it,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Released last month, Two to Quarrel was produced by Island Yard Production.
“I really hope this single will resonate well with the fans, because it’s challenging in a lot of regards to get a break when an artiste resides overseas,” said Agent.
Born Andre Carruthers, the 34-year-old spent his earlier years between the parishes St Thomas and Clarendon. At 14, he migrated to the United States but returned to finish his schooling at Meadowbrook High in St Andrew.
“I got myself mix-up in a li’l gang, but music saved me. Somewhere in me, I was destined to be a recording artiste. I later relocated to the States and began my musical journey,” he said.
Among some of the singer’s first set of releases were songs like Boom Chaka Laka, Babylon a Vampire and Heals Them.
In 2009, Agent released his debut album called Push On Thru. The track listings on that included Teach the Youths and Yes We Can.
“It was an exceptional recording and the aim was to create nostalgic flashes of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh and the album did just that. It got great reviews, especially in Europe,” he said.
Describing his musical style, the singer said his lyrics are enchanting, mesmerising and hard hitting.
“My message will always be inspirational. I am not quite pleased with the direction the music is heading. If we are not careful we are going to let down the legacy that our elder musicians left for us,” he said.
