Cop, engineer before court for alleged petrol theft from LIME site
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — A police and an engineer who are charged for allegedly stealing petrol from a LIME telecommunications site in Orange Hill in the parish were remanded when they appeared in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court last week.
The accused have been identified as 28-year-old District Constable Kamar Beckford, who is attached to the Falmouth Marine Police, and 53-year-old engineer Uriel Dezonie; both of Duncans, Trelawny, addresses.
Reports are that on May 20, the Darliston police received a telephone call tipping them off that men were spotted at the cell site in the community.
Quick response by the police resulted in the interception of a brown Honda Civic motor car on the Orange Hill roadway.
The vehicle was stopped and during a search of the vehicle nine five-gallon plastic containers containing diesel fuel, allegedly stolen from the cell site, were discovered.
Additionally, a hand pump, a large steel cutter and a battery were among other items which were recovered from the rear seat of the vehicle — all suspected to have been stolen from the cell site.
The two occupants of the vehicle, were arrested after they failed to supply the police with a satisfactory account of how they came in possession of the items.
They were transported to the Bethel Town Police Station where they were subsequently charged with larceny.
