Fire FC, Daniel Town eye promotion
FALMOUTH, Trelawny
FIRE FC and Daniel Town are on the verge of promotion to the Trelawny Football Association’s Major League, going into Saturday’s return-leg semi-finals of the National Runs of Jamaica Division One competition at the Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Both scored upset wins in last weekend’s first-leg semi-finals — Fire FC scorched mid-season champions Bunker’s Hill So Fresh 3-2 in their game, after Daniel Town had edged Rio Bueno FC 1-0 in the first match.
Bunker’s Hill, which went into last week’s game as favourites, will have an addition hurdle as they must play without two players — Rhys Young and Ricardo Hylton — both of whom were sent off in the second-half on Saturday.
Bunker’s Hill will, however, have Roy Dean Thomas who scored both of their goals last week.
Fire FC, however, gave up very little and could qualify for the final and promotion to next year’s Major League if they come out on Saturday with the same intensity.
In comparison, the Daniel Town vs Rio Bueno game was plodding, but Garfield Stewart who scored 24 goals in the regular season, could change that on Saturday if he gets going.
Stewart had several chances on Saturday, but Daniel Town’s goalkeeper Anthony Hamilton had an outstanding game, blocking several shots from close range.
