Slick moves
CALIFORIA’S largest synthetic lubricant exporter, Top 1 Oil, has moved into phase two of its plans for Jamaica when it was officially launched at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston, last Thursday.
“We’ve been in the island for a while now, in the commercial market, this is the next step, marketing and promoting to bring awareness of our product to the regular consumer,” John Levy, managing director Island Lubes Distributors Limited, told Auto.
Island Lube Distributors Limited will partner with GB Energy, holders of the Texaco brand, to make their wide range of oils available through their gas station. There will also be 11 smaller distributors to cover demand across the island.
Levy is part of the three businesses that are making the brand available to Jamaica starting with Top 1 Oil themselves.
“Our aim is to give Jamaicans a quality product at competitive price,” said Joseph Ryan, CEO of Top 1 Oil.
Ryan said that in Top 1 Oil’s more than 40 years of operation, it is sold in 65 countries, and has a lot of experience in developing nations as the brand has been successful in penetrating the tough Asian markets.
Levy sees one big advantage Top 1 Oil has over its competition, a local production base courtesy the second partner in the project — LSC Jamaica Limited.
“Top 1 Oils are a high quality solution proven in motorsport and we have the ability to tailor the oil to customer’s requirements or local conditions,” Levy explained.
While some of the oil will be imported, a portion of it will be manufactured locally by LSC Jamaica Limited.
“Our plans go beyond returning manufacturing to the island. We are hoping to use Jamaica as a distribution point for the rest of the region,” said Sydney Thwaites, CEO at LSC Jamaica Limited.
Top 1 Oil also announced a Scavenger Hunt Sweepstakes through their social media and online gaming application Nomino.
