Cop-chased chain grabber gets 6 months
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A man accused of grabbing a gold chain from the neck of another man in downtown Kingston was on Friday sentenced to six months in prison.
Careem Fray, 20, a resident of Princess Street in Kingston, pleaded guilty with explanation to larceny from the person when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Allegations are that a policeman saw the accused on Orange Street, in the vicinity of Charley’s hardware. The accused reportedly pushed his hand into the complainant’s car, where he was sitting, and grabbed the gold chain from around his neck before running away.
The policeman reportedly gave chase and caught him at the intersection of Luke Lane and Beckford Street.
“How many time you get in trouble before?” Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey asked.
“Some simple things like weed and so, 1 2 times,” Fray replied.
“Any reason why I should not send you to jail?” Pusey asked.
The accused told the magistrate that he did not rob everyday.
“A nuh something me do regular still,” he said.
Fray was subsequently sentenced to six months.
