Despite West Indies being crushed in the two-Test series against Australia, Captain Denesh Ramdin maintained there were positives that his team can build on.

He singled out individual performances from leg break bowler Devendra Bishoo and fast bowler Jerome Taylor.

“Young Bishoo, he bowled well in Dominica and Jerome Taylor, he bowled well here and some guys (batsman) got starts… what went wrong we need to correct that,” Ramdin said in a post-game television interview yesterday at Sabina Park in Kingston.

“We showed some fight, but not as long as we wanted to,” he lamented.

Bishoo, 29, took career-best figures of 6-80 to help bowl out Australia in the opening Test, but was ruled out for the second match due to a sore finger. The 30-year-old Taylor, who was underwhelming in Dominica, claimed his best in an innings when he ended with 6-47 on home soil in Jamaica.

But while the bowling was creditable, the batting, though playing on familiar home territory, was abysmal and the Australian bowlers reaped success by holding a consistent line and length.

Ramdin conceded it will be difficult when West Indies tour Australia to attempt to win the Frank Worrell Trophy later this year.

“It’s going to be tough down there as well so we need to go back to our drawing boards and improve as a team,” he said.

Michael Clarke, the Australian captain credited the West Indies, but said his bowlers did “really well”.

“They (West Indies) fought really hard throughout the series. What they [the Australian bowlers] did really well was to execute their skills over periods of time. We had to work hard for our wickets… we bowled really well today,” he said.

Steven Smith, awarded Man-of-the-Match after scoring 199 and 54 not out to sink the West Indies at Sabina, said “the bowlers were outstanding to take 40 wickets over the two games” to secure the series sweep.
