Caymanas Park to run a Diamond Mile
THE Sport of Kings will see its profile raised locally in the coming months as The Diamond Mile seeks to offer a king’s ransom come December 5.
The Diamond Mile will see 11 races, with a minimum purse of $1 million, held at Caymanas Park said Gary Peart, vice-vhairman of the Jamaica Racing Commission, at the event’s launch at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in Kingston yesterday.
The event is expected to offer a total of US$200,000 (J$23 million) on the day and will be the most lucrative in the Caribbean based on its purse.
Organisers expect that many Jamaicans, particularly those who are not fans of the sport, will attend for the experience but hope it will be the first step in expanding the audience and, eventually increase its popularity and profitability in Jamaica.
The Jamaica Racing Commission and the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission are in talks with various corporate entities to finalise sponsors.
