Asafa thanks fans after ‘special win’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former 100m World Record holder Asafa Powell says his 100m win last evening at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA)/Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships inside the National Stadium was for his fans.
Powell added another sub-10 clocking to his list to win the 100m final with a 9.84-second run.
He later posted a message on his official Facebook page thanking fans for their support.
“Thank you … I am humbled and grateful! This win was a very special one for me. All my Day 1 never give up on me fans that win was for you!? #cantstopwontstop? ?#blessed?,” he said.
Powell returned from a drug suspension in 2014 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced an 18-month ban imposed by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (JADDP) in 2013, to six months.
In the meantime, Powell expressed concern over World Record holder Usain Bolt’s form, but said that he thinks the six-time Olympic gold medallist will be ready for the World Championships in August.
Powell also weighed in on former World 100m champion Yohan Blake’s form. He said it is sad what is happening to him, but at the same time insisted that he remain focused and work towards next year’s Olympics.
