SUNSHINE Girl Khadijah Williams declares that she has one thing on her mind, and that is to win the 2015 Netball World Cup, scheduled for Sydney, Australia from August 7 to 16.

Williams said that, although it will be her first appearance on netball’s biggest stage, she won’t let the excitement get the better of her as she wants to bring home the title.

“This is my first time going to the World Cup, and I am excited. It has always been a dream of mine to represent my country at the Netball World Cup,” the Queen’s High past student told the Jamaica Observer at a recent practice session of the Sunshine Girls at the National Stadium.

“However, I won’t let all the excitement get to my head as I have set myself on taking first place. Yes, I am happy that I was selected to go but at the same time, I want to do well and make Jamaica proud. I am fit and in good form, my mind is on the title and I am ready to go,” the 20-year-old said.

Williams, who is a student at the University of Technology (UTech), said that preparations are going well and she expects the team will do well.

“Training has been going well so far; we had a three-game series against Barbados, which we won 3-0 and so the Girls are upbeat after that. During that series we used different combinations to get the formations right and that was used to pick the final 12 to go to the World Cup. That part is done and gone and the focus now is to get everyone together, gelling together as a team,” said the player, who has 14 caps since making her debut for the Sunshine Girls on April 1, 2013 against arch-rivals England.

The centre forward, wing-attack who stands at 5′ 5″ inches says going to Australia to play in the World Cup will bring invaluable experience to her career.

“I have never been to Australia before so it will be a new experience for me. This gives me the opportunity to explore different playing conditions; different type of plays and it will definitely boost my game, she said.
