Drag racing 101
THE National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) will be hosting a drag racing technical seminar tomorrow at Curphy Place in St Andrew.
Scheduled start time is 9:00 am and continues until 5:00 pm. The event is free to the public and open to registered NDRC racers as well as thrill seekers looking to participate in the sport under the NDRC banner.
“The drag racing seminar is geared towards our technical inspectors, registered racers, and anyone interested in NDRC drag racing,” Stephen Gunter, NDRC executive member, told Auto.
Topics to be covered will range from the basics of drag racing, NDRC general rules and regulations, the technical regulations, and the training of officials. The latter, Gunter explained, was the genesis and original purpose of the seminar.
“The NDRC recognised a need to train our technical inspectors beyond generic motor racing scrutineering. We wanted our technical inspectors to be specialists who understood the nuances and specifics within the NDRC drag racing rules,” he explained.
However, as the programme grew to fruition, it was realised that racers and the drag racing community as a whole would benefit from many of the topics included, leading the NDRC to widen the scope of the participants.
The drag racing seminar comes ahead of a month packed with activity for the NDRC, with their Road Tour hitting Mandeville on July 12, the standard Test & Tune on July 19, the weekend before Drag Challenge #3 on July 26, both at Vernamfield in Clarendon.
