TJAM Experience bigger and better
LAST Sunday saw Toyota off-roading aficionados enjoying the trails with the second staging of the Toyota Jamaica (TJAM) Club trek.
“The event went well and once again we were able to take persons on an adventure,” Tracy-Ann Fletcher, assistant marketing manager, Toyota Jamaica, told Auto.
Twenty-three vehicles showed up to take the two-hour plus journey from Northside Plaza in St Andrew to Yallahs River, St Thomas. Although the number of off-roading units was marginally smaller than the earlier event in March, there were actually more individuals, as many had simply packed their 4x4s with family and friends to capacity.
“We had over 70 persons this time,” said Fletcher.
The journey started off like the first with a drive up through Papine, into Mavis Bank providing spectacular scenery for everyone. Once into coffee territory, the trek presented itself with a few challenges, from tricky terrain, to navigational and mechanical issues, for a few. Jamaica’s oppressive summer heat and a forest fire completed the adventure as the convoy rolled to its destination. With everyone safe at Yallahs River, out came the food, drinks and swimming gear.
“The trail ended by a lovely river, which most persons took advantage of considering it was an extremely hot day, making it another enjoyable family outing for our customers,” Fletcher added.
For the rest of the afternoon, the Toyota faithful mingled amongst themselves, sharing stories of their vehicles and off-roading with the likes of Tom Connor, Toyota Jamaica managing director; financier Aubyn Hill; and the ever beautiful Dorraine Samuels, to name a few.
The club is hoping to hold at least one more expedition before the end of the year.
