SHE may not be a rock star yet, but if her performance on Rock Paper Scissors at Redbones Blues Café last Friday is anything to go by, Zezi is certainly an act to watch.

Born Sarah Silvera to a Jamaican mother and German father, Zezi was raised in Trinidad and Tobago. She got great response to her performance of genres as diverse as her background.

Most of her set was built around songs from her recently released EP, Slow Burn, produced by Wayne Armond. She did Million Eyes, Gi Gi’s I Don’t to Fall in Love, Break of Dawn, Wicked Game, What’s Love Got to do With It and the Spanish song, Chan Chan.

Rock Paper Scissors again showcased Jamaican bands whose influences range from rock, alternative, jazz and blues.

The pace for an entertaining evening was set by singer/promoter Dominique Brown’s Random Chaos.

Their songs included Hard Lovin Woman, Pretty Lie, Dreams, White Rabbit, Ganja Gangari and That Gun.

Guitarist/vocalist Jason Lee Worton was impressive with songs from his recent release, Here it Comes. These included the ska-flavoured Rock me Baby, Wake Up and I Believe in Love.

Skai Brid did well with their presentation of Heavy Soul, Daddy’s Coming Home and Blood in The Water.

Downstairs, led by guitarist/vocalist Brian ‘Jackamo’ Jones, took the show to another level with rock versions of Dennis Brown’s Should I and Gregory Isaacs’ Love Overdue, as well as some original songs.
