A retraction from Dennis Minott
Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to People’s National Party General Secretary Paul Burke:
Spurred by your direction earlier today (Tuesday, July 7, 2015), I have reflected on the well-researched, two-page article entitled ‘Minott challenges Bloomfield in Portland Eastern’ which was published in the Sunday Observer newspaper on July 5, 2015.
That publication accurately reported that: “Asked how Bloomfield had reacted to his challenge, Minott said: ‘I don’t even know if he’s heard. He’s so out of touch he might just not have heard, even though it’s common knowledge now.”
Upon carefully reviewing that statement, I am now persuaded that it relied too heavily upon speculation about the state of the MP’s knowledge. All that I needed to have said was, “I do not know if he’s heard.”
Consequently, I retract the particular statement about the present Comrade member of parliament that: “He’s so out of touch he might just not have heard, even though it’s common knowledge now.”
In order to be abundantly fair, I will make this specific retraction available to the media for appropriately prominent publication.
