Don’t weep for Greece; they have the Phoenix
Dear Editor,
Years ago, at Excelsior High School, my third form class of 40 students had a great literature/history teacher, Sybil Prescod. We were in awe when she taught us about Greece; its history, mythology, and might.
Greece gave the world the Olympians and the unparalleled Olympic Games. Greece gave us heroes, and look how many we have. Greece made us aware of Amazons, Aphrodite, Apollo, Midas, Theseus, Titans, Zeus, and the everlasting, inspiring Phoenix.
The economic soothsayers and the media wizards are predicting doom and gloom for Greece, but let’s watch for a while for there is old money. The super rich may bring back their money lodged in foreign banks, some other rich people may pay up their back taxes, and new investors may invest at the international four per cent rate. Their banks may not bleed the people and operate like usurers competing with each other, and boasting by way of full-page advertisement how much money they make each year, as is done in the country where I live.
If history repeats itself, as many believe it does, the Greeks will rise out of their economic ashes.
They have time in their favour, they have support, a major plan, and the obvious vision of the Phoenix. I don’t think we should be weeping for Greece.
