Fire FC are Trelawny Div One champs
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Fire FC won their first Trelawny Football Association’s National Rums of Jamaica Division One title after getting by Daniel Town 1-0 on aggregate in the two- way finals that ended at the Elleston Wakeland Centre on Sunday.
Sunday’s game ended in a 0-0 draw, but Fire FC’s 1-0 lead from the first leg played the previous Sunday was enough for the Wakefield-based team to earn their first title.
Alwayne Bennett had scored Fire FC’s goal late in the first leg.
Both teams will be promoted to the Major League next season.
On Sunday, Fire FC created most of the scoring chances, but Daniel Town’s goalkeeper Christopher Hamilton was equal to the task and prevented any more goals.
Fire FC also missed a number of good chances and could have been up 2-0 early on Sunday.
Daniel Town got their first chance midway the first half when Malik Scott got to a long ball into the Fire FC area ahead of goalkeeper Fierette Nunes, but he dribbled away from the goal and lost the opportunity.
Hamilton had one of his best saves in the 50th minute when he blocked Ronaldo Harris’s shot from inside the 18-yard box.
Daniel Town also came close to scoring a minute later, but Nunes blocked a shot at his near left post.
They had one last chance in the 77th minute to draw level, but Scott’s weak shot from the left side was knocked down by Nunes and collected on the second attempt.
