Seven horses were claimed on the nine-race programme at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. Country Train was claimed from Marlon Anderson by Harry Parsard for himself for $350,000 from the first race. In the second race, Hawkeye was claimed from Delroy Spencer by Steadman Curtis acting as both trainer and owner for $250,000; Infantry Officer was taken by Dwight Chen for Carlton Watson from Johnny Wilmot for $250,000; War Chip was claimed from Fitzgerald Richards by Errol Pottinger for JR Stables for $250,000; and Patrick Fong lost Aunt Hilda for $250,000 to Paul Smith for Deleta Brewster. Serious Business was claimed from Michael Beecham by Robert Darby Sr for H Paul Taffe for $180,000 and the Ray Phillips-trained Miss Dorothy was claimed by Paul Smith for Deleta Brewster for $180,000 from the third race.
SCOOP JORDYNE GOOD WIN AT OVERNIGHT LEVEL
Scoop Jordyne (Burning Marque – One One Nine) scored a long overdue win on Wednesday in an Overnight Allowance event over 1,000 metres straight. Ridden by Paul Francis for trainer Phillip Lee, Scoop Jordyne stayed with the field for about three furlongs before pulling away for a very comfortable five-and-a-half length at the end. The winning time was a fast 0:57:4 seconds.
TOP RIDERS FAIL TO RIDE WINNERS
The leading riders in the land, Omar Walker and Robert Halledeen both failed to ride any winners on the nine race card at Caymanas Park despite having some live mounts. Only Shane Ellis of the top three was able to get into the winners’ enclosure and this came in the nightcap when he piloted Phalaenopsis trained by Spencer Chung to victory. At the end of the day Omar Walker was still in the lead with 41 winners. He is now followed by Ellis on 40 wins and Halledeen 39.
THREE-TIMER FOR SADIKI BLAKE
Claiming apprentice Sadiki Blake highlighted Wednesday’s race meet with a triple on the nine-race programme at Caymanas Park. It was Blake’s first career triple joining O’Brien White and Shamaree Muir as the only apprentices from the last batch to ride three winners in one day. Blake’s winners were Country Train, Miss Dorothy and Black Boy.
“It feels great to ride my first three-timer. My hard work has really paid off. I just want to continue riding in good form and maybe more three-timers will come,” he told the Complete Racing Guide.
With those three winners, Blake has now ridden nine winners since the start of the year and 17 overall in his career.
