Upper Room Church’s Jermaine Brown stars in Community Basketball semis
JERMAINE Brown of Upper Room Church hugged the spotlight on the opening night of the Community Basketball divisional semi-final round games with a 40-point thriller as home teams were all victorious in the best-of-three series.
The thriller of the night, a game-high 40 points from Brown, was the performance of the play-offs as he led his team to a double-overtime, drama-packed encounter over Linkup All Stars in Grants Pen. Brown dropped eight three points shot in his scoring explosion with Upper Room Church defeating Linkup All Stars 90-87.
At Majesty Gardens Courts, the home team tagged Mega Mart Magics 73-70 to extend their unbeaten streak to 13-0.
Havanda Dunn sank 27 points, with Chris Evans and Lamont Lindsay adding 10 points each for Majesty Gardens. Sheldon Smith contributed 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Gavin Reid supported with 17 points for Mega Mart.
At Arnett Gardens Courts, Exed Heats scored a thrilling two-point victory over Eastern Piston 96-94. The victory came with the final basket of the match after the teams were tied at 94-94 seconds before the final whistle.
Omar Barnes hit 31 points, Rohan Robinson added 16 points and five assists, and Jermaine Thomas scored 17 points for the Heats, while Cordell Grant scored 30 points and seven rebounds, with Micheal Johnson adding 19 points and Andrew Goulbourne, 15 points for Pistons.
In the feature match, Arnett Gardens Rockers kept their unbeaten run intact with a 90-76 thrashing of Swift Sons. Swift Sons were the early leaders, but Arnett came right at them to lead at the end of the first quarter 19-17. The Rockers maintained their dominance to lead 24-13 at the second quarter. The Sons, however, were always in the hunt and took over the lead in the third quarter.
Kwayme Lawrence sank 26 points, Arnel Campbell added 17 points with 11 rebounds and John Brandt contributed 18 points for Arnett Rockers.
Dave Blackwood and Dimario Jackson scored 21 points each to lead the Swift Sons’ challenge.
