Santos, Constant Spring Masters face New York teams in charity matches today
CONSTANT Spring Masters will play Lions United of New York at 2:00 pm, while Santos Masters will meet Unsung One at 4:00 pm today at the Winchester Park, St George’s College.
The New York-based Lions United FC, made up primarily of former Rusea’s daCosta Cup players, have been making goodwill summer tours to Jamaica every year since 2002, playing games against several local teams.
They arrived in Jamaica on Friday and will also play in Westmoreland this Friday in a match to honour former coach Boysie Nicholson who is presently ill. The Lions Team for today’s match will consist of Dirks Brown, Eddie Sainmerville, Cliffon King, Dexter Davis, Pieter Henriques, Fabian Leehim, Lecroft Barnaby, Norman Simms, Michael Reid and Lance Peterson, among others.
Constant Spring Masters will look to Brenton Smith, captain Kirk Williams, Raymond Smith, Fabian Watkins, Lincoln Taffe, Durrant ‘Tatty’ Brown, Austin Brown, Oniel ‘Chippy’ McDonald and Craig ‘Warlord’ White, among others.
Unsung Ones will parade Anthony ‘Baddas’ Corbett, Hector Wright, Michael Toulloch, Calvin Valentine, Clennon Clarke, Howard ‘Magic Head’ Kerr, Donald Hewitt and Kevin ‘Pele’ Wilson in their line-up, while Santos Masters will have goalkeeper Andrew Sewell, Russell Hosang, George Stephen, Kevin Lamey, Clint Reid, John Flemmings, Jason Johnson, Barrington and Derrick Planter, and captain Kirk White in their line-up.
A presentation ceremony will follow both matches in which schools from both communities will be given gifts from Lions of New York Football Team and also the National Children Home in Papine.
