Four MP’s get Order of Distinction
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Four members of Parliament are among those that have been appointed to the Order of Distinction Commander Class for 2015.
Member of Parliament for East Kingston and Port Royal Phillip Paulwell, MP for Western Westmoreland Dr Wykeham McNeill and MP for South St Catherine Fitz Jackson were awarded membership to the Order of Distinction Commander Class for more than 20 years of distinguished service to Parliament. They are joined by MP for Central St Catherine Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, who was awarded membership for her contribution to the Jamaican music industry, cultural development and public service.
Meanwhile, RJR Communications Group managing director, Gary Allen, was also appointed as a member of the Order of Distinction Commander Class for his contribution to media and communication. Broadcaster Fae Ellington also joined him for her contribution to communication, media, education, and culture.
Among the other appointees to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander Class are: John Aarons, for his contribution in the field of library, archives, records management, preservation, and disaster preparedness theory, policies and practice; Justice Roy Anderson and Justice Marjorie Cole-Smith for their distinguished service to the judiciary and field of law; Professor Trevor Munroe for his contribution to academia in the area of social sciences and governance; and Ambassador Stephen Vasciannie for his outstanding contribution to the fields of education, law and international relations.
Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams has also been appointed as a member of the Order of Distinction Commander Class for his service to the Jamaica Constabulary Force. He is joined by Dr Robert Wan, who was appointed for outstanding service in the field of medicine and community development.
A total of 37 people were today appointed as members of the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander Class by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, acting in accordance with the regulations made under the National Honours and Awards Act, and on the advice of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.
