Defending champions return for Angels Junior TT
WHEN the fifth Angels Junior Table Tennis Tournament serves off today at the GC Foster College, several of last year’s winners will be on hand to defend their titles. Among them are Mark Phillips, the reigning Under-21 boys’ champion; Rajani Brown, who crossed the line first in last year’s Under-18 final; and Dadrian Lewis, who topped the Under-18 girls’ section.
Now a student at the University of the West Indies, Phillips gained valuable international experience earlier this year as he helped the Mona campus with the UWI Inter-Campus title. Similarly, the 15-year-old Lewis gained great exposure as a member of Jamaica’s team at last year’s Commonwealth Games.
Registration for the one-day tournament begins at GC Foster at 9:00 am.
When play begins at 10:30 am, Phillips, Brown and Lewis will do battle in a field of hopefuls seeking upsets. The boys’ and girls’ Under-9, Under-11 and Under-13 categories will start at that time up to the semi-final stage.
The boys’ and girls’ Under-15, Under-18 and the Under-21 open will commence at 1:30 pm with a session of shot-filled finals set to begin at 4:30 pm.
