Fenton at the helm of Mandeville Rotary… again
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Twelve years ago insurance advisor Marcelle Fenton became the first female president of the Rotary Club of Mandeville.
At the club’s most recent installation ceremony she was again tasked with the responsibility of leading the organisation.
Fenton, along with her executive, will ensure that the business of service continues for the 2015-2016 administrative year.
She told her audience during her acceptance speech that education and health will be top on the agenda.
Among the major projects for the year are the purchasing of an anaesthetic machine for the Mandeville Regional Hospital and contribution of computers to two schools.
Immediate Past President Elroy Ricketts passed the baton to Fenton, who served in his administration as president-elect.
Outlining some of the work done during the 2014-2015 administrative year, Ricketts noted that a computer lab was refurbished at the Hanbury Home for Children, a career day was held for Grade 9 students in the parish, an Interact Club was chartered at May Day High School, beautification work was done at the Ebenezer Primary School on Labour Day, work started for the development of a Rotary Peace Garden at Brooks Park, and refurbishing continues for a building that is used for the activities of lay magistrates.
Mike Fennell, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association and guest speaker at the installation, said that Mandeville Rotary Club has had many “distinguished” leaders and he urged Rotarians to continue to join hands for good causes.
