A Road Wi Seh!

SIX HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY

Six horses were claimed on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday. Eternal Joy was claimed by Neive Graham for O’Shaun Connection from Oneil Markland for $400,000 from the fifth race. In the sixth race, Rules of The Cat was claimed by Johnny Wilmot from Ryan Darby for himself for $180,000. Frankenstorm was claimed from Dennis Lee by Neive Graham for O’Shaun Connection for $250,000; Barrington Dawes lost Lovetta Jones to Harry Parsard for Karen Parsard for $250,000; Dagga Dagga Links was claimed by Richard Todd for himself from Ryan Darby for $250,000; and Aunt Hilda was claimed from Paul Smith by Marlon Anderson for himself for $250,000 from the eighth race.

RARE WINNER FOR ELVIS MURRAY

You see him at the track regularly putting in the hard work, but he has not been riding a lot. Well, veteran jockey Elvis Murray rode his first winner in over two years when he piloted the Patrick Smellie-trained Bimini to victory last Saturday. Bimini came with a telling run in the last furlong to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths at the maiden level going over 1,000 metres round in 1:01:4 minutes

“Well the feeling is good, but is a thing that we know how the racing is and you won’t always win. So it is nice to be back with a winning ride because over the last two years I haven’t been riding a lot. I got one (ride) the other day and the horse stood in the gate, so I decided to make full use of this one. There will be more winners to come,” Murray told the Complete Racing Guide.

“From I broke, I decided to stay close and look for the sprinters. He is a sprinter as well but I held him off the pace and waited until the leaders faltered and then went through for the win,” he added.

A ROAD WI SEH!

In a bold front-running effort, the Lorne Kirlew-conditioned Road Wi Seh scored a good win, capturing the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association of Jamaica (TOBA) Trophy in fine style last Saturday. Ridden by O’Brien White, Road Wi Seh (Adore The Gold – Dream Watcher) stayed with this 15 rivals before opening up the lead approaching the half-mile and although shortening a bit in the final 100 metres of the 1,400-metre event, held on for a one-and-three-quarter length win over Seeking Hope and Action Man. The winning time was 1:26:1 minutes.

“It is always nice to win races and to win the feature race is just great. The horse felt great and it was a good win,” White said.

NUNES SWEEPS ASTON COMMOCK MEMORIAL TROPHY

Trainer Anthony Nunes had a one-two finish in the day’s co-feature, the Aston Commock Memorial Trophy on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park last Saturday. Golden Bullet (Orlando Foster) led Nunes’ charges, when he produced a late run turning for home to upset his more fancied stable companion Bars Of Gold, under Shane Ellis, in the native-bred four-year Restricted Allowance non-winners of three other than event over 1,700 metres. Golden Bullet won by a length in 1:48:0 minutes.

“Leaving the half-mile I knew I had the race won as the leaders weren’t quickening,” Foster said.
