Bird shooting season still closed – NEPA
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA)/National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) on Monday advised that the Game Bird Shooting Season is still closed.
In a news release, NEPA said since the season is not yet opened, no one is permitted to commence bird shooting.
OBSERVER ONLINE was told Monday that the season customarily runs for six weekends, from mid-August.
However, NEPA, tho body that regulates the Game Bird Shooting Season under the Wild Life Protection Act, is awaiting the declaration from the minister of Water, Land, Environment, and Climate Change that the season is open.
The release Monday also said that people found guilty of breaching the Wild Life Protection Act will be liable to a fine not exceeding J$100,000 or 12 months imprisonment.
NEPA also asked the public to report any bird shooting activity observed during the closed season, by contacting them at 754-7540 or 1 888 991 50051 888 991 5005 FREE or the police at 119.
