Independence vibe in ‘Spain’
HALF PINT and Sizzla brought roots and culture to Independence celebrations in Spanish Town last Thursday.
Organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) St Catherine division and the parish council under the patronage of Mayor Norman Scott, the event attracted a massive crowd at the old capital.
Half Pint enlivened proceedings with his popular songs — Greetings, Political Friction, Mr Landlord, Hold On and Victory.
Sizzla, in an abbreviated performance, was just as effective. He sent patrons home singing favourites like Holding Firm, Good Ways, Just One of Those Days, Be Strong and Praise Ye Jah.
Before the established artistes took the stage, emerging acts did well. Among them was Influential, whose song Breast Cancer was dedicated to his parents who succumbed to the disease.
Berry Berry showed potential with I Can’t Let Go, Over You and Fly. Deep Joy was also promising on Inna Real Life and Life Goes On. There were performances from several dance groups.
The Festival showcase, promoted by the JCDC and the
St Catherine parish council, was won by Busky (Lindon Woodrow) with his performance of Accident.
Runner-up was Bam Skilly with his song, Food Leader. Third was Nigel Powell with Cat Put Tax Pon di Grass.
