Support for Mount Salem Police Station
ST JAMES, Jamaica (JIS) – National Security Minister Peter Bunting, says he is confident that the physical and human resources at the Mount Salem police station in Montego Bay, St James, are adequate to serve and protect the citizens.
Speaking to JIS News following a tour of sections of the community, the Minister said his confidence stems from the high level of support given to the Mount Salem police by other nearby stations.
“The Mount Salem Police Station was a residence that was converted many years ago. However, the operations in this area are supported by other stations that have more resources, more manpower and more capability. It doesn’t make sense to try and place more police officers there, we just don’t have the infrastructure,” he noted.
Bunting said the station will continue to receive support from mobile teams from other stations and departments on the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
“Although they are the local host station, they are supported by the Mobile Reserve and the Divisional and Area Operation teams,” he added.
The minister congratulated the policemen and women who work at the Mount Salem Police Station for the work they have been doing in stemming crime and violence in the area.
The station is located next to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay and has some 20 police officers assigned there.
