Boyz depart for Haiti in continued pursuit of Olympic dream
JAMAICA’S Olympic footballers depart the island today for Haiti, where they will participate in the Final Round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Qualifiers.
The Under-23 Reggae Boyz will play Cuba on Friday in the first game at the Stade Sylvio Cator at 4:00 pm (3:00 pm Jamaica time), before the hosts take on St Vincent & The Grenadines at 6:30 pm (5:30 pm Jamaica time).
The two winners then meet for CFU championship honours at 6:30 pm (5:30 pm Jamaica time) on Sunday, after the two losers grace the Stade Sylvio Cator two and half hours earlier.
The top two teams will represent the Caribbean at the CONCACAF stage of Olympic Qualifiers to be staged in the United States of America in October. Two teams from CONCACAF will automatically go to the 2016 Olympics in Rio be Janeiro, Brazil.
The Boyz entered the Olympic qualifiers in June when they defeated St Lucia 6-1, then followed up with a 4-1 triumph over hosts Dominican Republic to book their passage to Haiti.
In preparation for the engagement against Cuba, the Miguel Coley-led Under-23s drew 1-1 with Red Stripe Premier League outfit Waterhouse on Saturday and Arnett Gardens on Monday evening.
They were scheduled to wrap of the home preparation yesterday morning.
The team is being led by Captain Omar Holness, and is completed by Kereem Manning, Paul Wilson, Junior Flemmings, Amal Monte Knight, Vishinul Harris, Brandon Anderson, Joel Johnson, Kevaughn Frater, Christopher Campbell, Michael Seaton, Cardel Benbow, Patrick Haddad Khouri, Andre Morrison, Sean McFarlane, Nico Campbell, Ricardo Oldham, Andre Lewis, Romario Williams and Damion Lowe.
The delegation is completed by Charles Tomlinson, head of delegation; Coley, coach; Jerome Waite, assistant coach; Bersha Cole, team doctor; Howard Bell, team manager; and Lloyd Holm, equipment manager.
