Big money up for grabs in St Bess
Promoter Kingsley Scott has put up $150,000 in cash prizes for Slippery Wen Wett, scheduled for Pines Plaza in Junction, St Elizabeth, on Sunday.
“It’s going to be different,” he told Auto.
That difference is an X-Games style makeover for the event normally known for its dexterity-style layout and drifting antics. For 2015, on top of the sideways driving action through the cones, Slippery Wen Wett will feature two cars on the track at the same time in the confines of the venue.
“Fans can expect nothing but excitement from start to finish,” he said.
Scott further said that for the main event, which determines the top 10 fastest overall drivers, the cars will start at different ends of the course and continue to race as there will be a crossover bridge erected.
“The bridge will allow the cars to go over and under each other,” he explained.
However, before the racing even starts, there will be a bragging rights competition with $10,000 up for grabs, literally.
“We want non-stop action from start to finish, so we’ll be getting things going early,” Scott said.
The drivers will race through a course marked with cones that have $2,000 each on them. They will have to reach out of the vehicle while it’s moving to grab the cash. Competitors cannot stop, have three chances per cone, and must collect money from a minimum of three cones to be able to keep the cash. The driver who collects the most money during his run keeps the total amount.
Scott expects that the extra financial encouragement will bring out the top drivers from Mandeville, and as far away as Montego Bay and Kingston. During intermission things won’t slow down either, as BMX bikers Crash Dummies will entertain with their amazing tricks.
“The giveaways aren’t limited to the drivers. Our sponsors will be handing out prizes all day,” he said.
