JN donates $200,000 to West Kingston summer camp
THE Kingston Western Police on Tuesday received assistance in their quest to reach out to troubled youth in the volatile Division with a $200,000 donation from Jamaica National Insurance Company towards the hosting of a summer camp.
The Kingston Western community Safety and Security Department Summer Youth Camp was launched under the theme: “Moulding positive attitudes, unlocking your potential”.
Senior Superintendent Cornwall ‘Bigga’ Ford, officer in charge of the Division said the camp is scheduled to run from August 11 to August 23 at Camp Verley in St Catherine.
The camp will host a total of 150 youth between the ages 12 and 17.
The core of the participants is from various youth clubs, students with disciplinary matters, and troubled children in the division.
“Most of the children have been exposed to high levels of crime and exhibit behavioural problems,” a senior officer from the Division told the Jamaica Observer.
“The main objective of the camp is to change the mindset of these youth, providing different avenue for socialisation and behavioural modification.”
