Off The Rack

Kimonos

‘Salut’ my trendy teens. Summer is definitely winding down and the cooler ‘climes’ of Fall are approaching. Living in the tropics, it is sometimes hard to tell the seasons apart, so versatile trends are necessary.

One such trend is the kimono. The kimono is sometimes referred to as a caftan and is quite fashionable at the moment. It’s a look that can be transferred from one season to the next, a look that is perfect to grab Off The Rack and into your closet.

When one thinks of kimonos,  the geishas and samurais of Japan are the first things that comes to mind. While originating from early eastern designs, kimonos and caftans are designs that even us fashionable westerners can rock.

Kimonos and caftans are defined as loose, jacket-like clothing, they can be either ankle length or the length of your typical cardigan. Kimonos are usually made out of silk or cotton and are quite girly and flirty.

Versatility is seen in this trend as it transcends the seasons, it is light enough for spring or summer while the long sleeves and ankle length designs make it fit for the windy days of fall and winter. It is also fit for varying occasions.  Kimonos/caftans can be worn as a swim suit cover up at the beach or to add class to a basic day outfit of a camisole and shorts. It can even be worn out on a dinner date when paired with a body con dress and cute stilettos.

So run, grab your kimono Off The Rack, and be as fashionable as the ‘Japs’.
