Sweet revenge for Fortuneonehundred in Seek Exercise Book Trophy
The speedy American-bred Fortuneonehundred continued his growing status at the ‘A’ Class level with a really good win in the eighth running of the $1-million Seek Exercise Book Trophy at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
With in-form jockey Robert Halledeen riding for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, Fortuneonehundred (Keyed Entry – MY Bridlewood) was spurred on to take the lead after a couple of strides in the 1,300-metre event.
Thereafter it was sweet sailing for the five-year-old chestnut gelding as he opened up two lengths on the field turning for home, and despite the late burst of Traditional Prince, Fortuneonehundred was never challenged.
The winning time of 1:17:3 minutes was a true reflection of his talent as it was just 0:2 seconds slower than the stakes record of 1:17:1 minutes set by El Poderoso on August 24, 2013.
Fortuneonehundred was winning his third race from 11 starts this season and eighth overall with career earnings of just over $4.7 million.
It was sweet revenge for the connections as Fortuneonehundred went down by a neck to Traditional Prince in the recent Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission Trophy over 1,100 metres on August 1, but on this occasion he made no mistake in turning the tables.
DaCosta said that the plan coming into the race was to make every post a winning one.
“It was a good performance by Fortuneonehundred today (Saturday) considering he got a lonely lead. He is always very dangerous when he can dominate from early and today there wasn’t any speed up front to harass him and basically he dictated the pace and coming into the straight it was all over,” DaCosta told the Complete Racing Guide.
Halledeen shared the same view as DaCosta.
“Today (Saturday) there wasn’t any speed in the race to go with him (Fortuneonehundred) and that is what he likes, he simply loves to dictate the pace. He was cruising nicely without any real challenge and I knew that the race was going to be easy, and it was,” said Halledeen.
