Cocktails-with – Nicole Campbell
Nicole Campbell is working the room like nobody’s business. The socially savvy Flow sponsorship manager is in the National Indoor Sports Centre where the swanky event to formally introduce the merger of Flow and Cable and Wireless is in full motion. Styling in a Flirt Boutique-bought gold and silver bodycon, Campbell makes much of her guests, periodically checking in to ensure those of the 600-plus quota she crosses paths with are in good spirits. We inveigle her to break from networking to chat.
What are you sipping?
White rum and Ting.
Did you find the Saturday night, mansion-themed launch event a success?
All the feedback about the event has been extremely positive and I could not be happier. This was truly a team effort and the success of the event really speaks to our dedication to providing our customers with innovative experiences. I have to give special thanks to the Chow Society which partnered with us.
Are you excited about the new frontiers that the LIME/Flow merger will bring to the telecommunications landscape?
Well, we are now officially Flow and with the combined strength of our talented team and technology, I only foresee great things happening in this country.
How will your role as sponsorship manager now shift with the merger of the two companies?
I’ve always had a passion for marketing & communications so I’m looking forward to contributing to the business in one of those areas.
Working in the industry you’re in, are you a techie?
You have to be, but for all intents and purposes, I do have a few go-to guys at work who fill me in on all things tech when I am a little behind.
Describe your sense of style.
I would say I’m into contemporary clothing but I’ve been gravitating towards bolder, edgier looks.
What perfume are you spraying?
Versace Yellow Diamond.
What are your can’t-live-without beauty essentials?
EOS lip balm and everything MAC.
What are you jamming to on your car stereo or iPod right now?
I’m listening to a mix of old-school Celine Dion and Mariah Carey in my car right now.
Who does your hair?
Seon Grey.
Who does your nails?
Martina’s Nail Place.
Flats or stilettos?
I’m a stilettos kind of girl with a back-up pair of flats.
Jeans or a little black dress?
Jeans. I have to dress up a lot for work, so in my downtime I always opt for a pair of jeans because I can pull off almost any look in them. I have them in almost every shade and style.
Election season is looming large in the national consciousness. Why do you believe young persons and professionals in our country are, by and large, apathetic towards the voting process?
I’ve heard people say my vote doesn’t make a difference and my response to that is ‘yes, it does’. If all the young people who say or think so actually voted, we would see the impact. Go, get enumerated and vote. There are no excuses!
Who is your professional role model?
This is a tough one, as I have a few. I would say Sir Richard Branson; however, I’ve been blessed to be guided and supported by female leaders throughout my career. My co-workers Gail Abrahams, director of communications and stakeholder relationships, and Denise Williams, vice-president of communications, consumer; and Marguerite Cremin Chung, head of corporate relations, Central American and the Caribbean at Diageo.
When are you happiest?
When I finally manage to get all the people I love in the same room! There is a special type of energy when that happens that just simply warms my heart.
What irks you most?
I would say when I see women not supporting each other in the workplace. We can change the game if we choose a path of mentorship and empowerment.
What is your idea of the perfect date?
Dinner and a movie.
What is your idea of the perfect man?
A partner who is truly supportive and genuinely a kind and caring soul.
Where will Nicole be five years from now?
Whether I am running my own business or heading up a department, I hope that I will be able to positively shape the lives of young women who are just starting their careers.
