Transporter drives charity event
LUCKY movie fans got a sneak peek of The Transporter: Refueled on Thursday, at the Palace Cineplex, Sovereign Centre, Liguanea, St Andrew, ahead of its Friday premiere courtesy the Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals Kingston, Jamaica.
“The premiere is the first major fundraising efforts organised by the club in support of its outreach activities,” Sasha-Kay Gilzean, charter president for the Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals Kingston, Jamaica, explained to the Jamaica Observer.
The club, which was formed in June, already has a host of projects on the table to which proceeds will be directed.
“Proceeds from tonight’s show will go towards establishing a scholarship fund for the children in our Bring Up Grades programme, a reading club held weekly at the Norman Gardens Primary and Junior High School. We will also be making a donation towards the cost of a major surgery for a 12-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with oriental cholangitis and his family is in need of financial assistance to offset the procedure,” she said.
The Transporter: Refueled stars Ed Skrein and is a reboot of the original trilogy that featured Jason Statham as the Audi-driving action hero. The movie brought in US$17.1 million for its weekend release.
