2015 FLOW/ ISSA d’Cup kicks off Saturday
CORNWALL College will take an eight-game win streak into Zone A of the FLOW /ISSA daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football competition when they kick off the 2015 season against Irwin High in the third game of a triple- header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday.
Defending daCosta Cup champions Clarendon College, under the guidance of former national player Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis, will get the daCosta Cup officially under way when they take on Edwin Allen High in the second game, after Manning Cup champions Jamaica College and Calabar High play the opening game at 2:00pm.
In addition to the games at the stadium, a full set of games will be played across the island, including another three in western Jamaica.
Former champions Godfrey Stewart High will host neighbours Manning’s School in a Zone D game in Savanna-la-Mar, while Little London meet Maud McLeod. In one Zone B game, Merlene Ottey and Green Island will meet at Pondside in Hanover.
Next Monday, St James High will open their quest for honours against Anchovy High at Jarrett Park.
Irwin High will be seeking their first win over the 11-time champions, and will want to atone for two losses by a combined 14-0 margin last season.
Irwin had a good build-up for the season after winning the St James FA Under-20 competition after losing all their daCosta Cup games last year.
Cornwall College, meanwhile, won all eight games in Zone A last season, and have lost only two players from their starting line-up last year.
Cambridge High are returning to the competition after a one-year break and, after moving from the competitive Zone A, will face perennial Zone B powerhouse Frome Technical at home in southern St James.
