Another bid put forward for Mair’s constituency
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) deputy treasurer Leslie Campbell has submitted his application to the party’s general secretary, Dr Horace Chang, requesting to be considered as a candidate to contest the North East St Catherine seat left vacant by out-going Chairman and Member of Parliament Gregory Mair.
Leslie, an attorney-at-law, contested the St Catherine East Central seat in the 2007 General Elections but lost to Natalie Neita-Headly of the People’s National Party by 1306 votes.
The JLP will have much to consider, as Sharon Hay Webster who joined the party in 2011 and failed to retain her seat in the St Catherine South Central Division in the general elections, has also expressed interest in the constituency.
Webster had expressed desires to represent the constituency from as early as April of this year, which sparked heated exchanges between herself and Mair in the media, when he accused her of trying to unseat him underhandedly.
