Alleged killer found in mango tree
A murder suspect who was found in a mango tree after being on the run for three months, was yesterday remanded into police custody when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Jason Carter, 25, a resident of Mountain View Avenue in Kingston, has been charged with murder for his alleged stabbing death of Shevon Smith on April 5.
Carter allegedly stabbed Smith in the neck during a dispute, just after midnight on the day in question, and had been on the run.
Smith, the court heard, was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Acting on information, police patrolling Pembrook Road in Rockfort on July 6, went on search of Carter.
After several unsuccessful searches of houses, a police officer spotted Carter in a mango tree in one of the yards being searched. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with murder.
When he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, an October 8 mention date was set for him to be brought back for the case to be mentioned.
