Bearer faces more charges
CORIE Reid, a bearer accused of swindling over J$200,000 from three women seeking employment in Canada, is to be slapped with additional charges.
The 42-year-old resident of Hibiscus Avenue in St Andrew has already been charged with three counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence.
He was remanded into police custody when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident last week after it was revealed that four additional charges are pending against him.
Allegations are that two of the three complainants went to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security seeking employment when Reid reportedly overheard their conversation and introduced himself to them.
He reportedly told them that he had a friend at the ministry who could get them on the overseas work programme.
Reid reportedly gave them contact numbers for his friend.
As a result of the call, the complainants met with Reid on June 7 and each gave him $50,000.
They were reportedly taken to a section of the ministry and had their fingerprints taken and told after leaving that they would receive identification cards within three weeks.
They never received the permits.
Another complainant reportedly gave Reid $120,000.
The matter was reported and Reid arrested following an investigation.
Reid will return to court on September 16, by which time the additional charges are expected to be laid.
