Scotia, JN score wins in Inter-Bank Football League
SCOTIABANK began their defence of their Inter-Bank title with a convincing 6-1 victory over Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) as the 2015 Western Sports-sponsored Norman Goodison Inter-Bank Football League kicked off with a double-header at the Alpha Boys’ Home on Sunday.
BOJ took the lead in the eighth minute when Andre Campbell headed in a cross from Christopher Walker, which beat a diving goalkeeper Obrian Duncan.
BOJ were all over Scotiabank for 15 minutes and missed four easy scoring chances. Patrick Campbell, Andre Campbell, and Christopher Walker all failed to get the ball in the goal from point-blank range, twice from one-on-one situations with goalkeeper Duncan.
Scotiabank gradually came into their own and should have scored, but Nicholas Scott, Nicholas McCreath, Stefan Bartle,y and Kevin Lamey all were wasteful in front of goal. However, they got the breakthrough in the 43rd minute when Captain Dasean Meeks handled the ball in the box, and referee Joseph Heron awarded a penalty for Nicholas Scott to score the resulting spot kick. Scotiabank scored their second goal on the stroke of half-time as a one-two combination between Nicholas Scott and Stefan Bartley resulted in the latter shooting powerfully past goalkeeper Paul Allen in the six-yard box.
The victors dominated the second half and got their remaining goals from Scott in the 51st and 83rd minutes to complete his three-timer. Sanjay Campbell scored in the 79th minute and Kenroy Howell in the 88th minute.
In the feature match between National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Jamaica National (JN), NCB took the lead in the eighth minute when Sheldon Maragh beat goalkeeper Richard Forrest from close range. JN drew level in the 12th minute as goalkeeper Kristopher Lewis was beaten by Chevon Williams.
NCB dominated the match, but faulty shooting from George Clarke, Dwayne Salmon, Sheldon Maragh, and Andre Messam ensured that they did not score. Good goalkeeping from Richard Forrest was also a factor.
JN got the winner in the 72nd minute when Messam’s breakaway on goal was broken up by Vivian Lawes, and a quick counter-attack resulted in Kimario Williams shooting powerfully past Lewis at his near post.
The league continues with two matches on Sunday.
