#TSO2015: Retailers welcome increased customer flow
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chief Executive Officer of ARD2K Electronics and Furniture Richard Hamilton pulled out all the stops to promote the store’s new line of mattresses, pairing the product on display with skimpily clad, muscular men.
Passers-by had no choice but to stop at the Village Plaza location on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, to view all that was on show.
Hamilton told OBSERVER ONLINE that he decided to pair the two because he knew it would get people’s attention. He also said he specifically chose the night of Jamaica Observer’s annual Takes Style Out because of the increased customer traffic it would bring to the plaza during a usually slow period.
Hamilton was just one of the retailers within the Half-Way-Tree vicinity that told OBSERVER ONLINE he was pleased with the customer turnout.
Payless Shoe Source Manager Kadene Dawkins also had several customers milling about. In fact, she said the Tropical Plaza store had to be restocking shelves to meet the demands of the shoppers.
Several people lined the aisle of Payless as they patiently waited to cash their items, which were all discounted by 20 per cent.
Meanwhile, at the Jamaica Public Service eSTORE, though they said they were prepared and expected customers to turn out, they still could not meet the demand for refrigerator timers.
The light and power company’s Kingston and St Andrew Parish Manager Phillip Jarrett told OBSERVER ONLINE that they have ordered more stock and will be extending the discounts for customers who showed up tonight and were unable to purchase timers.
He also said the customer turnout was good.
