Kurry Stain aims for the sky
ROOKIE dancehall singjay Kurry Stain says he is enjoying quite a buzz with his latest single, Sky Pree, on JA Productions’s Life Support ‘Riddim’.
“I swear, is a great look. Mi phone a blow up everyday when the song a play. Mi a get a lot of response on my Twitter and Facebook pages,” the 21-year-old told the Jamaica Observer.
Released last month, the singjay said Sky Pree is a song reminding others that the sky is the limit and that goals can be achieved with hard work.
“Speaking about our needs and not putting out the effort won’t get us anywhere. We have to work hard and put in the manpower, then we’ll reap the benefits,” he said.
Born in St Thomas and raised in Portland, Kurry Stain (given name is Adrian Currie) relocated to Kingston at 18 to pursue a music career. Eager for a break in the industry, the singjay said he entered several talent competitions hoping to attract the ears of music producers.
“I tried ‘KFC On the Verge’ and went to the finals but did not win. Then I entered ‘Tastees Talent Trail’ and went to the semi-final round but did not win. Then I entered Magnum Kings and Queens but due to low vote, I fell off after the first performance,” he said.
The opportunity, however, came his way when he heard about dancehall artiste Popcaan’s Unruly Clash.
“I went to the clash and I lyrically ‘slew’ everything weeks upon weeks, generating a huge buzz for me from last year May until now. After that, producer Justus Arison was the man who saw and heard the potential in me and recorded my first official mainstream song,” he said.
His debut single was Party Nice recorded last August and he has not looked back since.
Other singles followed including Smoke Weed and Fly featuring Supa Hype, Belly So Flat, and Bring Back the Reggae.
Among his upcoming singles are Badmind Inna Dem and Confront We.
