Why must Jamaica be the UK general penitentiary?
Dear Editor,
It is more than appalling that David Cameron felt the need to build a maximum facility prison on our island to house Jamaicans that are now incarcerated in the United Kingdom.
Factually speaking, there are more Polish prisoners in the UK prisons than there are Jamaicans. Why did he not go to Poland with this idea?
There are more incarcerated Jamaicans in the US than in the UK, yet Barack Obama on his visit presented something totally different. Why must Jamaica be the UK general penitentiary?
I watched as our prime minister greeted this man knowing full well what his intentions were for our people. Peter Bunting gave us the heads up, now it is being revealed. Take your prison or alternative housing and go, Cameron. We need schools, infrastructure and homes for our families. We need hope, not mass incarceration of our people.
While both poltical parties sat in Parliament and listened to Cameron talk about the ‘unfairness’ of slavery not one of our leaders stood up for Jamaica and called him out on his country’s role.
While, I know that our prime minister has figuratively cashed that cheque already, still, thank you, but no thanks, Cameron. May God help us all.
