Steaming ‘Calaloo’ rides three winners at Caymanas Park
Wesley ‘Calaloo’ Henry was once again the toast at Caymanas Park, riding three winners on the nine-race mid-week programme yesterday.
Henry’s three-timer was highlighted by the Patrick Chang-conditioned Miracle Star, who produced a spectacular run in deep stretch to the win the top-rated race on the day, an Overnight Allowance Event over 1,600 metres.
After slowly into stride leaving the starting gates, Miracle Star settled into fourth place behind Royal Vibes, Lady Belridge, and Raging Prospect approaching the half-mile. But when asked to go by Henry in deep stretch, Miracle Star responded well to get the better of Royal Vibes (Robert Halledeen) by a neck in the three-year-olds-and-upward event.
Black Thorn (Barrington Bell) was third ahead of Raging Prospect (Odeen Edwards) in fourth. The final time was 1:39:4 minutes.
Henry was also brilliant when guiding Long Running Train for owner and trainer Harry Parsard to victory in the 1,000-metre straight Nasatol Trophy.
Long Running Train got the better of Royal Assault by one-and-half lengths in a driving finish in a quick 0:57:4 seconds.
Henry earlier won aboard Battle Song for owner Andre Adams and trainer Victor Williams, also going 1,000 metres straight in the fourth race. Adams and Williams then completed double with Eusebia (Robert Halledeen) in the final event over 1,200 metres.
“It is always good to ride three winners in one day. I have been putting in the hard work in the mornings and I am happy that it has paid off,” Henry told the Jamaica Observer.
Henry will start a 20-day suspension starting on Saturday.
