‘Frustrated’ ex-con gets 6 months for grabbing chain
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A frustrated ex-convict was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to grabbing a gold chain.
Damoy Turner told the court that he stole the chain out of frustration.
“Mi frustrated, mi have a three-month-old son and a mi alone,” Turner uttered.
Reports are that Turner grabbed the chain from the complainant’s neck and fled. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
When he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last week, he pleaded guilty to larceny from the person.
“How much time you come before the court already?” Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked.
“Two times,” Turner replied.
“For what?” Pusey enquired.
“For phone,” he said.
“So you go for phone already and come back come grab chain?” Pusey quizzed. “How much time you did?”
“Six month,” he replied.
“When you came out?” the senior resident magistrate continued.
“2014,” he answered.
Prior to handing down the sentence, Pusey said: “Let me frustrate you some more and give you six months for it.”
