Bogle: National Heroes Day not enough to honour heroes
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The great-grandson of late National Hero Paul Bogle has called on the Jamaican Government to do more to honour the work and contributions of the country’s national heroes.
“I am disappointed that the country is at a stage where more is not being done to honour our national heroes,” said Constantine Bogle, the man who is head of the 16-year-old Paul Bogle Foundation.
According to Bogle, the recognition of a National Heroes Day on an annual basis is not enough.
“As it now stands, it appears there is no money in the budget to honour any of our national heroes annually,” said Bogle in an interview with OBSERVER ONLINE.
He made the call on Monday night as the Paul Bogle Foundation hosted a memorial in the country’s capital city Kingston, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Morant Bay Rebellion.
The event was held on West Street.
Bogle said to mark the occasion and to remember the families who were killed
in the Morant Bay Rebellion, a total of 1,000 candles were lit at the venue.
