Three guns, ammo seized; student arrested
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting the seizure of three firearms and nine rounds of ammunition in separate incidents in the last 24 hours.
Two persons have been taken into custody, while a man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the lawmen.
Reports from the St Mary police are that about 8:30 am on Wednesday, lawmen carried out a search at a high school in the parish. A 16-year-old male student was searched and four .45 cartridges were allegedly found in his knapsack. He was taken into custody.
Meanwhile in Yallahs, St Thomas, lawmen carried out an operation about 3:00 pm, along the 9 Miles main road which led to the seizure of a .38 revolver and the recovery of a motorcar that was reported stolen. One man was arrested.
Then, about 5:45 pm, lawmen in Spanish Town, St Catherine seized a .357 Python Magnum revolver along with two .357 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Quarry Hill district. Reports are that four men on seeing the police ran. The area was subsequently searched and the firearm and ammunition found.
On Thursday, about 2:20 am in the Kingston Western division, officers attached to the Hannah Town Police Station seized a 9mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition during an operation. One man was fatally shot. He has been identified as Dwayne Harley, otherwise called ‘Grizzly Bear’ of Oxford Street, Hannah Town, Kingston.
The police said the matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
