The PHC Dialysis Unit situated in the Portmore Healthcare Complex (PHC) is part of a comprehensive healthcare service offered by PHC and Portmore Hospital Complex for residents of Portmore and its environs. PHC has been serving the residents of Portmore and its environs for nearly three decades, while the Portmore Hospital Complex, an ambulatory hospital facility, has been operating over the past two years from its location at 4 Mega Way, Portmore.

The PHC Dialysis Unit is dedicated to Haemodialysis, but it is anticipated that Peritoneal Dialysis will be offered in the not-too-distant future. Persons receive this treatment as a result of having End-Stage Renal Disease and is virtually a life-saving measure. In Haemodialysis, a dialysis machine and a special filter called a dialyzer (artificial kidney), is used to clean the blood of toxins and other impurities. The average Haemodialysis treatment lasts for four hours and ideally, should be administered three times per week; however, in Jamaica, most persons receive Dialysis twice per week.

The Unit, approved and registered by the Ministry of Health, presently has a complement of seven modern dialysis machines and can accommodate up to fifteen (15) patients per day. It is staffed by a team of dedicated, experienced medical, nursing and technical personnel. Its water treatment system is of the highest standard as required by Ministry of Health guidelines.

Dialysis is offered four days per week as follows: Mondays and Thursdays:7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays: 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.

The facility is centrally located in the Independence City area of Portmore, facing Passage Fort Drive. Dialysis takes place in air conditioned comfort, with comfortable reclining chairs, internet access and cable television so our clients can relax in comfort while being dialyzed.

PORTMORE HOSPITAL COMPLEX

Portmore Hospital Complex has been in operation for the past two years and was conceptualized because of the need for a hospital in the Portmore area. It is a ambulatory hospital, providing cutting edge laparoscopic surgery and is the only facility of its kind in Portmore where all your medical and surgical needs are located under one roof.

It also offers all major surgical and medical specialties. Colonoscopies, Gastroscopies and other endoscopies rarely performed in major hospitals in Jamaica are performed here. The Complex has pioneered the skill of doing out-patient procedures like laparoscopic cholecystectomies, hemorrhoidectomies, Hernia repairs and Mastectomies. These procedures are rarely done as outpatient surgeries in hospitals in Jamaica, but usually require hospital stay. The Complex will soon be offering diagnostic artroscopies for diagnosing and treating different joint pains.

At present, the Complex operates from 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m., however, it is anticipated that the facility will soon be offering 24-hour accident and emergency service. Portmore Hospital Complex has been a welcome medical facility for people in the Sunshine City.
