Big rigs roll out tomorrow
BILLED as Jamaica’s biggest custom truck show, L.I.G. TruckFest will take place tomorrow at Spego’s Place off Mandela Highway, St Andrew, starting at 12 noon.
“The promoters of the original TruckFest saw what I did with Heelz N Wheelz this year, liked it, and decided to work with me to bring back the brand,” Andrew Leesing, event organiser, told Auto.
The first TruckFest was held in 2008 in Priory St Ann. In April Leesing brought the spectacle of large custom trucks to his event Heelz N Wheelz at the National Stadium to great effect. L.I.G TruckFest will follow a similar formula, with over thirty trucks expected to be in attendance for patrons to browse. The event is also open to off-road and 4×4 vehicles. Participants will then have the option to enter one of the six categories for which there is a total of two million dollars available in cash and prizes. The six categories are Best Jakes, Best Lighting, Best Truck, Best Paint Job, Most Chrome, and Cleanest Interior.
“We will have a combination of local and overseas judges, with several of the categories including crowd response,” Leesing explained.
Along with the trucks is an extensive entertainment package scheduled for the evening. Scheduled to perform are Bounty Killer, Sizzla Kalonji and Christopher Martin. The evening activity will be hosted by Nikki Z.
During the day families will be able to enjoy amusement rides and a Kids Zone, as well as a vendor’s row. — Rory Daley
