St Catherine cashier charged with embezzlement
A woman, who allegedly stole $250,000 from Post to Post Betting Limited, is scheduled to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on January 25.
Forty-eight-year-old Simone Wilson of Caymanas Drive in St Catherine — who was employed as a cashier at Track Price Plus — was allegedly given a little over $500,000 to hand over to the betting company, but is accused of taking some of the cash.
Last month when Wilson appeared in court her lawyer, Althea Freeman, told Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that she was going to take further instructions from her client before making a decision about compensation when the magistrate asked about restitution.
However on Tuesday, when Wilson appeared in court, Freeman was absent. As a result, another mention date was scheduled and Wilson’s bail was extended.
According to the allegations, on July 18 Wilson was entrusted with $476,320 that was to be collected by personnel from Post to Post Betting Limited, but only handed over $276,320.
It is further alleged that on August 10 the accused earned $77,885 from the day’s sale, but only handed over $27,885 to her employer.
The alleged theft was discovered shortly after and Wilson was arrested and charged with fraudulent conversion and embezzlement.
When cautioned by the police she allegedly said, “Officer, my mother was sick and I used the money to buy medication”.
