Glowing performances at Glowell Prep Christmas concert
The little ones — from kindergarten to the grade six students — put on memorable performances that made their parents, relatives, friends and well-wishers proud.
There were, however, a few sotto voce comments from a few who apparently thought they were going to see a line-up of professional stars in concert, which is always expected from the usual naysayers.
But, that aside, the energetic opening item from the senior and junior dance troupes set the stage for a wonderful evening from the Cedar Grove, Portmore school.
The night, however, belonged to the senior dance troupe which won an encore for the penultimate performance on the two-hour programme.
The energetic opening — which had some dancers on stage, some just in front of the stage, and others down the passage — had the audience in eager anticipation for the offerings of the young Glowell students.
Part one featured a solo by Kevina Watson that told the story of Gabriel visiting Mary, a dance titled
Family Prayer, and a rendition ofMary Heard the Word by the choir.
Avia Martin then took the audience on the
Journey to Bethlehem with a solo, while the boys’ choir sangCome Lord Jesus. A piece from grade one students, titledHosannah,Silent Night by the sign language group,No Home for Jesus by grade two students, and a danceGo tell it on the Mountain, capped the performances before the intermission.
The items after the resumption were equally entertaining as the students, from the kindergarten with their rendition of
The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy, to the grade six ‘Shepherd Boys’ withRejoice, reminded the audience how the King (Jesus) was born.
Grade three’s
Joyful, joyful, andWe Three Kings were also well received.
Principal Gloria Jack was beaming when the programme ended and gave special praises to the school’s dance teacher, Sheriel, and Vice-Principal Gillian Myers, who were producers of the event. Myers also doubled as MC for the evening.
