MBU return to RSPL top at Christmas break

TUCKER, St James

Former champions Montego Bay United are the leaders of the Red Stripe Premier League at the Christmas break after a 0-0 draw against Harbour View FC in Kingston on Monday night, the final game for the 2015 calendar year.

With the second draw against their east Kingston opponents this season, Montego Bay United moved past Portmore United on goal-difference, as both teams are tied on 34 points.

Montego Bay United are ahead in most categories as they lead Portmore on goal-difference, 18 to four, and also have the best offensive and defensive records, as well as the top scorer at the break.

The team — which has been to the last two finals, winning in the 2013-14 season — leads the scoring charts with 29 goals and have only conceded 11 in 18 games played.

Dino Williams, with 13 goals, is the top scorer so far.

FC Reno, the other western-based team, are in seventh place on 23 points and winless in their last three games.

Defending champions Arnett Gardens are in third place on 32 points with Humble Lion of Clarendon in fourth spot on 28 points.

The league continues on January 3, when FC Reno goes to Portmore, while Montego Bay United will play a third straight Monday night game a day later, hosting Tivoli Gardens at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Owayne Gordon of MBU shoots at goal against FC Reno in their RSPL second-round game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, December 14.
