#BestOfWorstOf2015 – Female fashion trends
Best: A-Line (Midi) Skirts
Undeniably, the best female fashion trend for 2015 was the A-Line midi skirt, with honourable mention going to the maxi skirt of the same design. This trend’s been hot since the beginning of the year and gave us a classiness that reflected the 1950’s era of fashion. This fashion piece could be worn anywhere, whether it was to a party, church, or even to a business event. One just had to dress it up or dress it down.
The elegant design added class to any and everyone who wore it; especially the satin version.
One personality who truly perfected the look was Minister of Youth and Culture and former Ms World, Lisa Hanna. Other Jamaican celebrities rocked this trend and regular individuals who knew how to appreciate fashion with a dash of elegance and style.
So whether it was a pleated version or just a fit and flair, A-Line midi/maxi skirts totally rocked this year.
Worst: Plastic chokers (Dishonourable Mention – Knock off Reeci’s Pieces)
While many may disagree, the choice for worst 2015 fashion trend for females was easy. ‘Tattoo chokers’ should never have become a fashion staple. God alone knows why this was allowed to happen. Chokers may just be a little too close to looking like a leash, bringing to minds slavery or bondage if your mind strays.
Perhaps, it can be tolerated when worn sparingly, with unique designs. But when the entirety of Jamaica’s young female population decided to go around with joined-up elastic bands around their necks, and call it ‘tattoo chokers’, it needed to stop.
It was not cute, it was not stylish and it definitely was not fashionable… Sadly, the good has to suffer for the bad, because if you were wearing chokers before the influx of elastic bands around the neck, you are sadly being grouped with individuals who wore them tastelessly.
Dishonorable mention also goes to the knockoff Reeci’s Pieces slippers. Come on, the slippers were not that expensive… Can’t a Jamaican designer succeed without us swindling away their dollar? The knockoffs really killed the classiness of the trend – rundown heels are not pretty.
However, they do say: “To each his/her own.”
